Who We Are

Through shelter, we empower.

We offer a way for families to own or remain in their homes and focus on the things that matter — like education, health, and family.

Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity partners with qualifying families to help provide solutions to the housing crisis in the Matthews, Mint Hill, and Stallings communities. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

We received incorporation as a nonprofit organization on July 10, 1989. To date, with the help of many hardworking and committed volunteers and partner families, we have built over 116 homes in 9 neighborhoods in the Greater Matthews community.

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central and imperative for Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity. Whether on a work site or in the workplace, we are committed to fostering a culture where diversity, equity, and inclusion are core to our thinking, strategies, and actions. We believe in a world where everyone — no matter who we are or where we come from — deserves a decent place to live. And we recognize that, to create this world, our work must always break down barriers, bring people of all backgrounds together, and generate equity, respect, and lasting change.

All Are Welcome

Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize.  This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Why Shelter?

Affordable homeownership creates conditions that free families from instability, stress, and fear.

Wherever we work, we witness tangible evidence that stable, affordable shelter creates positive, long-lasting change for families and entire communities.

Our team is working to build a brighter future for our community.

Greater Matthews Habitat's work is overseen by a board of directors and staff who deeply believe that all people deserve a decent place to call home.

Fiscal Responsibility

Greater Matthews Habitat has an obligation to act as responsible stewards in managing our financial resources and act as a faithful steward of your generosity.
