When you donate your car to Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity, you’re doing more than clearing space in your driveway—you’re helping local families move toward lasting stability and the security of a safe, affordable home.

How It Works

Through Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program, your old car, truck, motorcycle, RV, or even boat can help families in our Matthews, Mint Hill, and Stallings communities achieve safe and affordable housing. The process is simple:

• Donate your vehicle online or by calling 1-877-277-4344. Be sure to designate Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity as your local affiliate recipient.

• Free pickup—your vehicle will be towed at no cost to you, even if it isn’t running.

• Tax-deductible gift—you’ll receive a donation receipt, and proceeds from the sale of your vehicle directly support our local programs.

A Donor’s Story: “Blue Monkey”

For one Matthews family, donating their car wasn’t just an act of giving—it was a way to honor a loved one.

“We chose Habitat for Humanity because my father really loved your work and he supported it.

My father passed in 2017. At his memorial I played I Can See Clearly Now with the line ‘there’s the rainbow I’ve been looking for.’ That Father’s Day, a double rainbow formed over Charlotte. Not long after, my wife totaled her car. We were broke and struggling, and found a used Honda Civic we weren’t sure we could trust. Just as we wondered if it was the right choice, a rainbow appeared over the road. My wife reached out and touched it. So we bought the car—and named it Blue Monkey, our family mascot.

Both my sons learned to drive in Blue. When I picked up my father’s ashes from ECU, I Can See Clearly Now came on the radio.

Blue has been a dependable car. I think my dad would have done the same. My hope is that Blue can help someone.
